No matter what time voters in the Rivanna District decided to go to the Lake Monticello precinct, the lines were incredibly long. There were at least hour and a half long waits starting at 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning but that didn't stop people from wanting their voice to be heard for Virginia.

"I tried to vote twice earlier today but the lines were a lot longer than tonight. I'm here and I'm not going home until I cast my vote," said Sandra Baymar, a voter who was in line for an hour and a half.

The long lines weren't expected by election officers.

"We expected a large crowd but we've never seen anything like this. We ran out of a lot of supplies actually," said Alan Steward, Assistant Cheif of the Rivanna precinct.

Everyone was tired and trying to stay warm but it seemed that everyone was in good spirits.

"I did go home and put on some warmer clothes except for my feet which are a little cold right now," said Jane Berkeley who tried to vote earlier on Tuesday but realized she'd be late for work if she waited on the line.

"we've been with great friends, drinking some hot chocolate it's gone by pretty fast," said Darryl Baughan, a voter from Fluvanna.

First time voters said it was a little different of an experience than they had expected but great to see democracy in action.

It's been a cool experience but kind of shocking with the lines. But no one is in line arguing about politics everyone's kind of just complaining about the cold," 18-year-old Nathaniel Ludwig said.

An incredibly close and important election will be even more memorable for voters in the Rivanna district.

"It's a night we'll always remember," Baughan said.
