The scent of a candle can really set the mood, especially as Winter approaches.

"There is a scent to every season," says Mike Kamorski."So I would go looking for a candle to start the season off. Just like decorating."

But a few years ago Mike and his family noticed the candles they were spending $15, $20, $30 on were not getting the job done.

"The half burn ones were the ones that were killing me. You look and only half of it's burning it."

So they took matters into their own hands.
Working out of a room above the garage, Mike and his family make soy wax candles from scratch using a precise, seven step process. Autumn Hill Candle offers sixteen scents, each throughly tested.

"It will take us twenty scents each until we hit it right, and a lot of these are our own formula too so we'll get two or three of em' together and see what works."

And at least one of the scents is a happy accident.

"Four or five years ago I was working in the candle room, testing two or three scents. My wife and the kids, everyone, came into the room and said what is that? What is that scent? Well I got a few, and what they were smelling was three combined that was just phenominal."

The candles are made of soy wax, not parafin like many of the candles you see in stores, and Mike says there is a good reason.

"When I started doing my reseearch I stumbled into it accidentally, and the primary ones are it's a renewable resource made right here by American farmers."

It also burns cleaner and is all-natural. It also has an all cotton wick, which is centered precisely in the middle of the candle every single time.

It took about six years for Autumn Hill to be ready to market their product, but now the website is up and running at http://www.autumnhillcandle.com . Mike hopes his secret recipe and attention to detail will strike up a new interest, and put a new light on the family business.
