Healthcare providers in Charlottesville are hoping to make shopping for medical supplies a little more convenient. In this week's Martha Jefferson Healthwise report CBS19's Stephanie Satchell found out more about the hospital's online market place.
From cane's to knee braces Martha Jefferson Hospital is now offering many of the items from their brick and mortar marketplace online.
“We know that it meets a need of a lot of our patients. We know that everyday patients are discharged and they still have needs for some specialized medical equipment. A lot of times we're telling them to visit multiple stores in town and this way they can find the products they need after discharge in one convenient spot,” said Katherine Boucher, Director of Retail, Martha Jefferson Hospital.
When you log-on to the site, you will find more than 1,000 products.
“We have a lot of orthopedic products, physical therapy, and a lot of memory aides for Alzheimer's patients,” said Boucher.
Unlike other online medical stores, this one is different. Martha Jefferson has set up special pages for clinicians. Each one has a list of products they recommend to their patients.
“They've gone on and selected special products so you can scroll down and see the therapist that you just had a session with and then you can get the product that they know they recommend,” said Boucher.
Boucher says this is an added convenience when patients may be going through a tough time.
“There are just so many things that you have to worry about and this really simplifies one of those things that you can just go to this website,” said Boucher.
Shoppers will be able to find all the medical supplies they need before, during and after a hospital visit right at their fingertips.
