Martha Jefferson Hospital, Walgreens Offering Free HIV Testing

June 27, 2014

A few organizations around Charlottesville want to make sure that you know your HIV status today.

Thrive Healthcare has partnered with Walgreens and Martha Jefferson Hospital for National HIV Testing Day.

Free HIV testing is available until 7 p.m. Friday, June 27, at the Walgreens off of Route 29 and Profitt Road.

Martha Jefferson Starr Hill Health Center in the Jefferson School City Center is also holding free testing until 5 p.m.

Over 1 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV, with nearly 50,000 new cases each year.

"It's something that can affect everyone in your life. It affects you, it affects the people around us," says Jason Elliot, recruitment specialist. "And this is something that can impact anyone and everyone. It’s not specific to one demographic or one type of person; everyone needs to know their status."
