The Michie Tavern Downtown Mile race was held on Wednesday, preceded by a Healthy Living Expo at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion.
The race took the more than 200 runners from Jefferson Street, near Lee Park, all the way around High Street and then ended in front of City Hall on the Downtown Mall.
The winners of the men's and women's races share more than the winner’s podium -- they are also engaged to be married.
Jeff See and Heidi Gregson won the men’s and women's mile race, respectively, and plan to used their $2,000 in cumulative winnings to help pay for the festivities.
"We just got engaged a few weeks ago, so it's all really exciting," said See. "This will certainly get swallowed up very quickly in all the engagement and wedding planning."
See finished the loop with a time of 4:08 while Gregson crossed the finish line in 4:39.
The Michie Tavern Downtown Mile is part of the American Heritage Race Series. The series is meant to get people living healthy, involved in their communities and engaged with historic sites across Virginia.
Proceeds from the race go to support the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society.
