The Thomas Jefferson Foundation hosted the annual Founder's Day medal ceremony at Monticello this morning.
Teach for America founder Wendy Kopp was this year's recipient. Teach for America is a national organization that works to help better educate kids growing up in poverty.
"For the Citizen Leadership award, we look for individuals of the highest caliber who have made immense contributions to society in ways that are sustainable and scalable," says Leslie Greene Bowman, president of Thomas Jefferson Foundation. "I think Wendy, in really shifting education, has done just that."
Kopp spoke on the inequalities seen in schools due to different socioeconomic backgrounds. She is determined, with her organization, to solve those problems.
