On Friday and Saturday, folks at Monticello held the seventh-annual Heritage Harvest Festival at Thomas Jefferson's home. The festival is meant to showcase local agriculture and reflects Jefferson's love of the land.

Leslie Greene Bowman, president of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Inc., says that farming was one of Jefferson's original passions.

"We know he's an architect, we know he's a politician, we know he wrote the Declaration of Independence, some folks might not know that he is really our founding 'foodie', had more interest in food and wine and gardening that really before or since." says Bowman.

The festival featured live animals and agricultural demonstrations ranging from how to care for trees to growing heirloom tomatoes. There was also live music, which is a first for the festival.
