Monticello High School Donates $1,500 to Creciendo Juntos

June 13, 2013

Creciendo Juntos (CJ) received a surprise Thursday morning as the drama department from Monticello High School (MHS) donated $1,500 to their organization.

CJ is an organization that focuses on helping people in the Latino community.

The spring musical, "In The Heights" is based on a Latino community set in New York. The drama director wanted to include more Latino students and asked that they come out and participate.

"This is just the beginning," says Madeline Michel, Drama Director at MHS. "Just because this was a Latino musical doesn't mean it's the end of the partnership."

"I'm so happy that I was able to involve people that are usually involved in musicals, but people from my culture," says MHS student Elizabeth Lainez.

Funds from their Saturday show were donated to the organization and will be used to help their educational programs.
