UPDATE: One Injured in Saturday Night Route 29 Crash

One person was injured Saturday night in a car accident that closed multiple lanes of Route 29.

The two-car crash happened just before 11 p.m. Saturday. Albemarle County Police said a car driving west on Rio Road ran a red light at the intersection and hit a minivan headed north.

Two people were inside the minivan at the time of the crash. The passenger was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with minor injuries.

The driver of the car has been charged with failure to obey a traffic signal.

All northbound lanes and three of the four southbound lanes of Route 29 were closed for about 35 minutes.

A two-car accident on Route 29 has snarled traffic Saturday night at the intersection with Rio Road.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. Saturday. A Newsplex crew on the scene reported all northbound lanes of Route 29 were closed, and only one southbound lane allowed traffic through.

All lanes are now reopened.

As of 11:30 p.m. Saturday, it is unclear if there are any injuries..
