Sam Welty, an artist from Hampton Roads, came out to draw a chalk mural on the Freedom of Speech Wall on Charlottesville's Downtown Mall to support the charity 'Wounded Wear', which helps wounded and disabled soldiers.
The scene he drew is from a 5k run in Louisville, Kentucky earlier this year where a group of Navy SEALs helped a young boy born with a spinal disorder run the course with them.
"this dad put him in the chair and they ran the 5k with these NAVY SEALs while they're in full kit and they all have flags and it was just a really, really beautiful story." says Welty.
"I wanted to capture that here for the Fourth of July"
Welty says he chose to Freedom of Speech Wall because it allows anyone to say what is on there mind.
