Two Charlottesville women were targeted by an apparent phone scam and are now warning others to protect their bank accounts.
The phone call, apparently originating from North Carolina, says: "This is the Crisis Investigation Unit. We are contacting you about a complaint filed against you."
The two women affected say they get scam calls all the time, but this one sounded more legitimate and almost had one of them close bank accounts out of fear.
When one woman called the number back to learn more information, the alleged Crisis Investigation Unit tried to get more personal information out of her and said she would be receiving a summons in the mail.
The North Carolina number is 336-283-0327.
Anyone who receives the call can file a complaint through the Virginia attorney general's office.
