The National Transportation Safety Board released a report this week about a plane crash that took the lives of an Albemarle County family.
The crash happened on Dec. 20, 2011, along a New Jersey interstate in Harding. Pilot Jeffrey Buckalew, his wife Corinne, their two children and one of Buckalew's colleagues were all killed in the crash.
The NTSB report said the engine and airframe were intact before the accident. Many witnesses saw the plane descending at a rapid rate while trailing smoke.
Some said one of the wings fell off during the flight.
The NTSB concluded that the cold weather and icing played a primary factor in the crash.
