A Nelson County judge gave two life sentences to Randy Taylor for the murder of Nelson County teen Alexis Murphy. Taylor was convicted back in May by jury trial for Alexis Murphy's murder. They recommend two life sentences for Taylor. Murphy's body has never been located.

Barracks Road was closed between the Route 250 Bypass and Georgetown Road Wednesday because of a tractor-trailer fire and diesel fuel spill. Firefighters are investigating what started the fire and no injuries were reported.

The Virginia Department of Health held an Excellence in State Public Health Law conference at the Darden School of Business. The goal is to improve the overall public health of the commonwealth. The conference focused on food and physical activity

OpenSpace is closing its doors after providing people a space to work at since 2009. The founder says while a labor of love -- the business was not profitable. Current members will be able to use the space for free until the doors close on August 29th.

Good news for Mark Warner's re-election bid. A Roanoke College poll says the Democratic Senator is still in the lead at 47%. Republican Ed Gillespie follows at 22%. And Robert Sarvis polled at just 5%.
