A new library for Crozet has been in conversation for more than ten years. Now, all of the talking and planning can stop because the doors to the new Crozet Library open Wednesday.

The old space was cramped but the new space is bight and spacious. Wednesday the closed signs on the front sliding doors will come down and year of learning and reading will be opened up to the public.

John Halliday, Jefferson-Madison Regional Library Director, said, "I think people will really be very impressed by what they see when they walk into the new library."

The library staff has been busy stocking the final books, getting all of the computers ready and cleaning up the last bits of construction.

Halliday said, "The library's not completely done yet. There are still a lot of things to work on. Just like with a new house. There's some molding work that still needs to be done, some of the furniture hasn't been delivered yet."

A little bit of construction isn't stopping them from checking out books on Wednesday. There are even some new, convenient features.

Halliday explained, "One thing that people might appreciate in the new library is we have self check out stations. So, people can check their own books out if they want and those will be functioning tomorrow morning."

There are 35 new computers, conference and meeting rooms, reading spaces, desks, a fireplace and plenty of parking. The Crozet Library is unlike any other in the county.

Halliday said, " It's really a state of the art public library providing information and education for people of all ages. We are looking forward to seeing the looks on peoples faces as they come through the front door."

The grand opening will be held on September 28. They hope to have everything delivered, finished, and in place by then.
