The Virginia Department of Transportation (V-DOT) will soon start work on a $6.88 Million project to improve the Interstate 64 interchange at Zion Crossroads in Louisa.

The project will rebuild the interchange as a "diverging diamond", an innovative design that will improve safety by reducing the number of spots where vehicles could collide, and can handle more than 600 left-turn movements per hour.

Construction is expected to begin in May, and end in the spring of 2014.

Lane closures will shift over the course of the project, so motorists are urged to drive with caution and obey all traffic signs.

The traffic design will be the first of its kind in Virginia.
