There are more than 700 food establishments in Charlottesville and Albemarle County and the Shops at Stonefield is adding six new, high-end restaurants to that overall number.
Timothy Hulbert, President of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce, said, "In Charlottesville and Albemarle alone, restaurants do something just north of $300 million dollars of restaurant business catering each year."
Black & Orange, Cyclone Anaya's, and Parallel 38 will be joining Pasture, Burtons Grill, and Traninias Italian Kitchen. All making up The Shops at Stonefield's culinary selections.
"If you're a very good restaurant," Hulbert commented, "you need to always be on top of who the new competitor is, who is coming in and make sure your offerings, your food, your service are as good or better as the newest kid on the block."
That's one thing Lord Hardwicke's has been doing for the last 40 years, catering to their customers.
Joanna Greb, a Bartender at Lord Hardwicke's, said, "There's a new variety almost every single day which I think is one of the big things for us is that we have different things on the menu everyday unlike many restaurants."
Some say more food options bring more people to the area and keeps money local. Hulbert said, "People in our region immigrate to Northern Virginia and Short Pump to retail shopping and the Shops at Stonefield also offer a destination."
But others think that there are just too many options and Charlottesville won't be able to handle them all. Greb said, "I mean we have a nice selection of all the restaurants.. Anything we want to eat we can find.. I think there's getting to many restaurants in the area."
The Shops at Stonefield are set to open in just a few weeks, but not all of the restaurants will be open right away.
