Officers Practice Emergency Drill at Orange Co. High School

August 16, 2013

Law enforcement officers in Orange County are making sure they're ready to respond if there were ever an emergency at a school there.

Friday morning, State and local law enforcement held a "live shooter" drill at Orange County High School. They simulated shots being fired inside the school, and officers working together to respond and control the situation.

Officials say they try to make these drills as realistic as possible so they can be can be sure each officer is prepared if a situation were ever to happen for real.

"Every time we do one of these, we learn something new," says Chief Deputy Michael LaCasse. "We learn about a new weakness, or we learn about what our strengths are and we know what to concentrate on for when we do the next one."

Officials say they have plans in place for each school in Orange County, if a real emergency were to arise.
