Opera Singers Surprise Shoppers at Main St. Market

July 3, 2014

Shoppers at the Main Street Market were given a surprise musical performance Wednesday.

The Ash Lawn Opera staged a pop-up opera for customers.

Singers dressed as employees at Spice Diva started singing songs from two American operas, “Susannah” and “Fiddler on the Roof”.

Ash Lawn Opera says surprise events like these are a great way to expose people to opera.

“A purpose of a pop-up concert is to bring opera to something not everybody is familiar with or is comfortable with,” said Michelle Karisel, with Ash Lawn Opera. “Have it pop-up in unpredictable spots so that you hear what opera really sounds like, which is beautiful, fun accessible.”

Ash Lawn is opening “Susannah” at the Paramount next week on July 11th.
