Orange Co. Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

Master Sergeant George A. Bannar Jr. died on Tuesday in Afghanistan from gunshot wounds. He was 37-years-old.

A soldier from Orange County has been killed while serving in Afghanistan.

Master Sergeant George A. Bannar Jr. died on Tuesday from gunshot wounds. He was 37-years-old.

Bannar was assigned to Company C, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C., and was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. This was his fifth deployment to Afghanistan.

He has been posthumously awarded a purple heart and bronze star.

Bannar is survived by his wife and his parents.
