Organizers Plan for 26th Annual Toy Lift

Nov. 13, 2013

Preparations are underway to make sure every child gets a toy this Christmas.

Organizers met Tuesday night to plan for the 26th Annual Toy Lift. The event collects new toys to give to children in need for the holidays.

Last year, nearly 36,000 children were able to receive toys for Christmas morning because of the charity. Also, for the first time, the Toy Lift was able to give a bicycle to every child who requested one. More than 6,000 books and board games were also given out.

Organizers anticipate more demand because the economy is not much better this year.

"We know the people of Central Virginia. They've come out and helped for 25 years and helped us make sure that no child goes without a toy this Christmas," said Tom Powell, the founder of the Toy Lift. "Our motto is it only takes one, one toy, one dollar, one hour, one minute of your time to come out and volunteer and make sure a child smiles this Christmas."

The Toy Lift is scheduled for Friday, December 6th.
