Over 1k Drivers Cited During 1 Day Va. Safety Campaign

Sept. 16, 2013

Virginia State Police conducted its latest Operation Air, Land & Speed traffic safety campaign this past weekend.

Troopers covered approximately 870 miles of interstate Saturday, Sept. 14, as part of their efforts to reinforce safe driving in the Commonwealth.

As a result 1,008 speeders and 255 reckless drivers were cited during the traffic-safety campaign. In addition, one drunk driver was arrested on Interstate 81. Sixty-two drivers were cited for failing to buckle up and there were a total of nine drug/felony arrests during the operation.

Funds generated from summonses issued by Virginia State Police go directly to court fees and the state’s Literary Fund, which benefits public school construction, technology funding and teacher retirement.
