It was a sea of orange on the Downtown Mall Friday night. Wahoo fans came out in full force for Paint the Town Orange.

Hundreds of people cheered on the Wahoos during the pep rally on Charlottesville's Downtown Mall.

"We did the bouncy house and now we're getting our face painted," said Lizzie, 6, who came with her friend Savannah, 8.

The marching band made its way to the nTelos Wireless Pavilion where UVa head football coach Mike London took the stage to pump the crowd up.

"We come every year. I drive in from Cincinnati. My husband flies in from Memphis. He's a UVa alumni and so's my daughter," said Ellen Bowman.

"It feels like coming home. I miss it more and more every year," said Katie Bowman, a UVa 2010 graduate.

The Bowmans also came to cheer on their cousin, a first year at UVa and member of the UVa marching band.

"This is one of the best things for school spirit and community outreach," said Lisa Bell, whose daughter is also in the marching band.

"I wish I went to a school like this," said Leslie Stenbeck, who came from Massachusetts for Paint the Town Orange.

The UVa football team will take on Brigham Young University in the season opener at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Scott Stadium.
