Petitioners Want ABC Agents Fired Over Arrest of UVa Student

July 3, 2013

Graduates of the University of Virginia have set up a petition calling for the dismissal of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) agents involved with the arrest of UVa. student, Elizabeth Daly, at Harris Teeter.

The petition is online at, and is addressed to Governor Bob McDonnell.

Petitioners also want an apology from the ABC for the actions of the agents during the Chalottesville operation.

On April 11th, ABC agents were approaching people who appeared to be underage leaving the Harris Teeter at Barracks Road Shopping Center with possible alcoholic beverages.

Agents thought Daly and two other women with her were carrying a 12-pack of beer, and weren't able to get to the women until they had gotten into a vehicle.

Agents in casual clothing surrounded Daly's car, flashing badges and yelling to not move the car. Daly says one agent pulled out his gun.

One of the women in the vehicle panicked, causing Daly to quickly drive away, her vehicle grazing one of the agents.

Daly was charged with two counts of assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, and one count of eluding. The Commonwealth later dropped those charges against her.
