A threatening call made to Virginia State Police on Wednesday morning put officers on alert, and forced inspections of all trucks passing through the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.
Traffic was backed up for miles on Interstate 64 at the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, and I-66 at the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel.
State police say all commercial vehicles at both tunnels were being inspected, and there are increased patrols in the area. Members of the Coast Guard and FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force were also on the scene to help.
The details of the threat have not been released. Officials would only comment that a threatening phone call concerning the Hampton Roads area was made.
