Play On! Theatre was given it's eviction date this past weekend. They have to be out of the IX building in Charlottesville by May 24.

Play On! Theatre doesn't know what their next steps are, but they are raising money and searching for a new facility.

The reason Play On! is being evicted is because the IX building land lord has found a higher paying tenant to take over the space. Unfortunately, that now leave Charlottesville's only all volunteer, non-profit community theatre homeless.

Play On! is trying to raise $20,000 to cover the costs of moving and storage. The money will also be used to outfit the new space to become a theatre. So far, they have raised more than $14,000.

Alex Citron, Executive Director of Play On!, said that if a new home isn't found by this fall, it could be the end of the theatre.

Citron said, "We can only stay in limbo and in storage for so long. We really know that this has to happen and has to wind up in a new space no later than September or it's just the end of the areas only all volunteer community theatre and that would really be a shame."

"Dr. Dolittle" will be the last production before the eviction date. Performances start Friday, May 3, and run through May 19.

Citron did say that a local church is expected to move into the space as well as the empty space next door.
