UVa students are still in shock after witnessing a stabbing in front of a popular student housing apartment complex on Saturday night, and police are still trying to piece together what happened.

Around 11:30 PM Charlottesville police were called to the 1100 block of Wertland Street for a stabbing.

The victims, two 19 years old males from Arlington, VA, were taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Charlottesville police arrested 20-year-old Jarrett S. Talley from Louisa County and 22-year-old Michael C. Harlow from Goochland County on two counts of malicious wounding. They are both being held at the Charlottesville/Albemarle Regional Jail.

Students who were outside on Saturday say they can still see signs of the stabbing.

“I was in the apartment right up there inside, next thing I hear someone runs inside and says 'Someone just got stabbed!'” says Brian O’Neill, second year at UVa. “I thought it was a joke at first, but then we walk outside and there was blood everywhere.”

“Like I said, it looked like a scene from Dexter.”

Several students who were throwing a party on the first floor saw people running away from the scene.

“All of a sudden people just started running outside of our apartment and freaking out so we asked what was going on and someone said someone was stabbed upstairs and we just couldn't believe it,” says Emily Faught, second year at UVa.

“Essentially this whole apartment building is all college students so it's not like anything happens like this and there's blood all over the front patio now,” explained Riley Tata, also a second year.

Students say they feel safe, but are learning to be more aware of their surroundings.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the event and urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000.
