UPDATE 4:11 PM
Officials have confirmed that the child struck by a vehicle on Nelson Drive has died.
Police say the girl was a Charlottesville resident, but did not live on Nelson Drive.
People who live on the street say the child got out of a vehicle on one side of the road and was hit by a truck while crossing to the other side. They say two other children and an adult were present.
Investigators are still piecing together what happened leading up to the crash.
"The road was closed for probably about two and a half to three hours while the accident reconstruction personnel were evaluating the scene as well as what evidence needed to be collected along with the forensic unit on the scene," said Lt. Roberts.
Roberts says the details from their investigation will be turned over to the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office for review.
A 6-year-old girl was hit by a vehicle Monday afternoon, according to Charlottesville police.
Police say it happened just before 12:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Nelson Drive in Charlottesville. Lieutenant Ronnie Roberts said the child was taken to the hospital, but would not release any more details.
Lt. Roberts said the parents had not yet been notified. No arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
