As you get ready for your New Year's Eve celebration plans on Monday night, Charlottesville police reminds everyone to plan ahead in terms of transportation.
Officers will be out on the roads looking for signs of drunk driving and they encourage you to call 911 if you are behind what seems to be a drunk driver.
Police say there are lots of alternatives: car-pooling, using a taxi service, a safe-ride taxi service or planning on staying the night at a friend's house.
"You should be doing this at all times. Don't ever drink and drive. It leaves a lot of tragedy on our roads and to families that we all know. Be aware of that and have a plan in place," said Lt. Ronnie Roberts.
Roberts says spending $25.00 on a cab ride is a lot less of a hassle than the $5,000-$20,000 for a DUI charge.
