Charlottesville Police are searching a landfill near Richmond looking for clues to the disappearance of 19-year-old Dashad "Sage" Smith.
Lt. Ronnie Roberts reports that the search is focusing on evidence related to Smith's disappearance, but would not specify what evidence might be in the landfill.
Family members hope that authorities can find some type of evidence that will generate leads.
"Part of you wants to think that, I hope that they find, whether it's him, whether its evidence of anything that was thrown away. I hope that they are able to find it," said Dashad Smith's mother, Latasha Smith.
Several unmarked Charlottesville police cruisers and a Charlottesville Fire Department vehicle were parked in the private landfill in eastern Henrico County.
Smith disappeared a month ago, and family members say hope is starting to fade.
"I'm losing hope but it's still chance of something and I'm just hoping that he can still come home," said Latasha Smith.
Dashad Smith was last seen in the 500 block of West Main Street on Tuesday, November 23rd.
