On this Super Bowl weekend, local police are asking drivers to be responsible while on the road.
Albemarle County Police plan to beef up patrols this weekend, looking for those driving under the influence of alcohol. Police say they'll also be keeping a watchful eye on those who are speeding and not wearing seat belts.
"Unlike other holidays, such as New Year's where people sort of plan to go and maybe spend the night, we're going to have a lot people that are going to these parties, going to festivities and they're going to try to get back home," said Sgt. Sean Hackney. "We just want people to think ahead come up a plan to get home. Designate a driver. If you can't please call a cab."
The funding to add the extra patrol comes from a grant, so patrol officers won't be taken off their normal weekend duties.
