Police to Watch for Bus Safety as Albemarle Co. Students Start School

August 20, 2013

Albemarle County police are reminding everyone to be safe on the roads and around buses as kids start school on Wednesday.

It is Virginia law that all traffic must stop when a bus is stopped and has its red lights on. Drivers can only pass a stopped bus in locations where there is a physical barrier that separates the lanes.

There will be more police officers out tomorrow, monitoring areas around the schools and along bus routes.

Officials recommend drivers should allow extra commute time in the morning and to be prepared for changes along their normal driving routes.
