Program Offering Free Books to Summer Camps, Students in Charlottesville

July 22, 2013

Young readers in Charlottesville are getting a chance to pick up some free books.

The Book Basket program provides free books to children participating in Charlottesville Parks and Recreation summer camps and summer school.

Organizers say it's important for kids to have access to reading material when they're at home and away from camps or schools.

"I think there's something really special about being able to take home a book that you know is yours to keep in comparison with being able to read a book at camp or check out a library book something that's yours your tend to cherish," says Adam Ruemmler with Camp Excel.

More than a hundred students will receive books throughout the week.

Books are donated and purchased by people in the community.
