Reflections: Governor"s Art School Showcases Student Work

June 28, 2013

Students from all around Central Virginia will showcase the work they created with the Reflections: Governor's Art School.

Friday's art show will be held from noon to one in the afternoon at the MLK Performing Arts Center at Charlottsville High School.

Reflections is a two-week art program for 40 students from middle schools in the city of Charlottesville, Albemarle, Greene, and Nelson Counties as well as private and home school areas.

The students were chosen to participate based on their extraordinary artistic abilities.

After the two-weeks the students get a chance to show the art they created during the program with an art show. Their instructors will also judge their work based on originality, creativity and their ability to express emotion through their work.

"The theme was 'Me, Myself and I' so we were doing some self portraits," says rising 7th grader Chloe Lowell. "So we did a lot of cool things like we drew our own hands like right here and we also did abstract mixed media portraits of ourselves."

The school wants to promote student creativity, knowledge in art history and a student's ability to present.

"It was a really fun experience and I definitely want to do it again next year," says Lowell.
