Dec. 11, 2013
Virginia 5th District Congressman Robert Hurt is introducing legislation aimed at leveling the playing field for smaller drug manufacturers.
The Republican congressman says his proposal would change generic drug user fees from the FDA, so smaller manufacturers would pay fees reflecting the size of their firms, compared to larger companies.
Rep. Hurt says the Food and Drug Administration’s current structure is threatening the smaller companies.
The congressman released a statement, saying, "The expectation that all manufacturers pay the same fees, regardless of their size, is unrealistic and should be adjusted to accommodate these smaller companies so they can continue to innovate, produce and compete."
