While several immigrants officially became citizens of the United States, it is important to remember that immigration reform is still a hot topic issue today.
5th District Congressman Robert Hurt spoke at the naturalization ceremony at Monticello on Friday. The congressman spoke about the immigrants that came to this nation years ago and made America what it is today.
Rep. Hurt says that the U.S. has welcomed people who want to be a part of this country, but he says that the welcome has to be done in the right way, like the ceremony at Monticello.
“We have a huge responsibility as Congress and in the White House to make sure that people come to this country in a legal way and the right way, and at the end of the day I think this symbolizes that.”
Currently Congress is battling with what to do with immigration reform, when it comes to illegal immigrants coming into the country.
