The Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce releasing its annual retail sales report.
Data shows retail sales during the first quarter of 2014 were up 1.97 percent in Albemarle County compared to last year.
Louisa County saw an 8.51 percent rise, sales in Waynesboro increased 1.81 percent, and the City of Charlottesville saw an 18.45 percent jump.
Retail sales dropped in Greene County by 5.02 percent, and Augusta County saw a decline of 3.95 percent.
Over the first half of 2014, Albemarle Co. and Charlottesville, the region's retail hub, brought in over $1 billion in total retail sales.
The 2013 Chamber Jobs Report data show that more than 17,800 jobs, 22.4% of all private sector jobs, within the Greater Charlottesville region, are in “Trade, Transportation & Utilities;” most of those in retail.
The Chamber will release its comprehensive 2014 Chamber Jobs Report in September.
