Rescue Squad Has New Device to Save Lives

The Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad (CARS) has a new tool to help those suffering cardiac arrest.

LUCAS is an automated heart compression machine that operates at a constant and consistent rate to maintain a pulse.

“Having this state-of-the-art device helps increase our operational effectiveness,” said Dayton Haugh, CARS chief. “We can apply LUCAS to the patient in less than 30 seconds, and it reduces the number of providers who are needed to administer CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) during a cardiac emergency"
