Rotunda Scaffolding Comes Down as Fundraising Pours In

May 5, 2013

Construction crew continued taking down the last of the scaffolding around the Rotunda Sunday to prepare for Final Exercises.

This weekend, crews began taking apart the scaffolding on the east side of the Rotunda. They will continue from May 10 to May 12.

Once the metal bars are taken apart, they'll be forklifted to a tractor trailer on Hospital Drive and removed before graduation ceremonies and celebrations on May 19.

An effort by UVa. students to raise money for all that construction had another success this semester. The Restore UVa. online auction brought in $6,000 for the multi-million dollar renovation project.

Students auctioned off unique items and experiences, like a dinner for 96 people in the Dome Room of the Rotunda. That experience was the biggest draw, going for more than $1,200.
