The Soccer Organization of Charlottesville-Albemarle, or SOCA, will be expanding to the Belvedere community after a land donation from Stonehaus and Belvedere Station Land Trust.

The space will be the location of SOCA's new office and the athletic organization's first indoor soccer arena.

"It will become a home for the club and sort of a home for all seasons," says SOCA Executive Director Bill Mueller. "It will enable us to run year-round comprehensive programming for all of our age groups from youth to adults, from our highest level players to our recreational players."

Albemarle County resident Evelyn Tickle's son, Carter Kitchin, plays at the most advanced level at SOCA. Tickle says an indoor space is much needed, especially during the rainy season.

"The teams are really missing a lot of practices, so this is going to be a wonderful first step in a much larger expansion," said Tickle.

The new office and indoor facility are the first step in a three-phase project to meet the organization's growing demand.

"The facilities we have are great, but we don't have enough," said assistant coach Wissam Zaatar.

SOCA serves thousands of child and adult soccer players and currently uses more than 30 fields in the area and owns six of them. The expansion will include five new outdoor fields in addition to the indoor arena.

Mueller says he expects construction to begin in less than a year and for the entire project to be complete in about two years.

SOCA is currently fundraising for the project. For more information about how to contribute, click HERE.
