Scottsville Town Council Asks for Law Change Following Dumler Scandal

February 19, 2013

The Scottsville Town Council asked to consider changing laws that would remove the Chris Dumler from the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.

On Tuesday evening, Council unanimously passed a resolution requesting the General Assembly to look at state code and consider tightening the law so that a misdemeanor, such as the sexual battery charge Dumler plead guilty to, would be enough to remove him from office.

During the public comment period, people spoke for and against Dumler.

"Many people felt that right now with the charges on Mr. Dumler that probably he should be asked to step down but the charges don't require that right now in terms of the misdemeanor that he has. So what a lot of us have heard from people is some frustration with the way that the law is currently written," said Dan Gristko, Scottsville Town Councilor.

Dumler did not attend Tuesday's meeting. He has said in the past he has no intentions of stepping down from the board of supervisors.
