WEST AUGUSTA, Va. (AP) - Search and rescue teams are looking for a Staunton man who's been missing for nearly a week on Shenandoah Mountain in Augusta County.
Augusta County sheriff's Capt. Glenn Hanger says 60-year-old Robert Fitzgerald of Staunton was last seen last Monday. He was reported missing Thursday when he did not show up for work.
Fitzgerald's vehicle was found near the Confederate Breastworks Trail on the mountain. Hanger says Fitzgerald apparently dropped his cell phone in that area while hiking last Sunday and returned the next day to find it.
Fifty to 80 search and rescue personnel are looking for Fitzgerald. Hanger says the searchers have scoured thousands of acres of forestland and haven't found anything.
