A local planner is making a run for Albemarle County supervisor.
Democrat Brad Sheffield announced his candidacy for the county's Rio District outside the Albemarle County Office Building on Tuesday.
Sheffield is a University of Virginia graduate with two daughters in the county's public schools.
One of his big platforms in this campaign is transportation, and he says he'd like to continue supervisors' efforts in creating secondary roads throughout the county to improve overall traffic flow.
"I've decided to run because I really do believe that when we make decisions for Albemarle County, we need to be making decisions that leave a legacy for our future generations," Sheffield said. "We need to make sure we're putting together those plans and making common-sense decisions that prepare us for the opportunities."
Sheffield will be running against incumbent supervisor Rodney Thomas, who has served on the board as a Republican since 2010.
