The local Special Olympics program received a large donation from ACAC Fitness Center this morning.
As a part of their $25 for 25 days fundraising program, ACAC donated money from members who signed up in the month of February to the program.
A member of ACAC and a spokesperson from the Special Olympics explained why this event was important to them.
“ACAC has been doing the ‘$25 for 25’ program, very successfully being able to give back to the community,” says ACAC membership director Kelly Kyriacopoulos. “This is our way of being able to support folks.”
“We’re very grateful that we were the benefactor of that fundraiser,” says Special Olympics spokesperson David Zentmyer. “The money is used to pay for sports equipment.”
“In just a few minutes we are leaving for the state basketball tournament in the Stafford High School area, so it pays for their travels and expenses to compete in those games.”
The Area 3 Special Olympics received more than $36,000 dollars from the fundraiser.
