A church in Scottsville will reopen its doors on Christmas Eve for the first time in two years.

St. John's Church will open on for the Candlelight Midnight Mass at 11 p.m.

"Tonight we're reopening St. John's for the midnight service, which has lots of folks excited and really looking forward to being back in that building again," said Father Randy Haycock, the priest of the St. Anne's Episcopal Parish.

Haycock spoke after a Lessons and Carols service Tuesday evening at Christ Church, another church in the Parish.

St. John's has been closed for repairs after slow damage, compounded with the big snow a few years ago, caused significant structural damage.

"Something new is being born in us, and of course that's what Christmas celebrates is Christ being born anew in each and every one of us. So, we're looking towards the coming year with much anticipation and joy," said Father Haycock.

The Parish Hall that shares a wall with St. John's still has some renovations left.

The church hopes to raise money and fix the space in 2014 and open it up to the Scottsville community.

Everyone is welcome to join the mass.
