One local woman is using an organization she co-founded to give back to children, families, and staff at the Ronald McDonald House in Charlottesville. In this week's Stephanie’s Heroes, CBS19’s Stephanie Satchell is featuring Brooke Jenkins for the work she does with Red Shoe C’ville.

Brooke Jenkins is all about giving back to her community especially the Ronald McDonald house in Charlottesville.

It's a place where out of town families can stay free of charge while their children are receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals.

“When families need a home away from home it's just one of the best places to come and feel comfortable and secure and just for a little bit of normalcy in what's a really hard time,” said Brooke Jenkins, Co-Founder, Red Shoe C’ville.

Jenkins and many others wanted to help. That's why they created Red Shoe C’ville.

The organization volunteers and raises money to help with expenses at the house like buying food to stock the cabinets, purchasing books and toys and even helping with the cost of renovations.

“Brooke and all of the members of Red Shoe C’ville just infuse us with so much enthusiasm and that's what we need. We work 24 hours a day 365 days a year and to have a group providing so much support ongoing alignment with what we do is tremendous,” said Rita Ralston, Executive Director, Ronald McDonald House Charlottesville.

Red Shoe C’ville has only been around for a little more than a year, but in just a short time Jenkins says they've accomplished so much.

That's why she's working hard to keep this organization going. She says it makes a difference for the Ronald McDonald House and their volunteers.

‘Why not? Why isn't everybody doing this? Everybody should join something that recharges their batteries. We work our jobs to pay our bills, but we do our volunteer work to recharge our batteries and have a lot of fun. It's the part that keeps you going every single day,” said Jenkins.

Their ultimate goal is to ensure a safe and convenient place to stay so that children and families can focus on the only thing that really matters and that’s getting well.

Red Shoe C’ville is having their next fundraiser called Putter Power at Putt Putt on Rio Road in Albemarle County. The event is from 10:00-2:00 on July 27, 2013.
All proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald house in Charlottesville.
