As hurricane season approaches, the state wants to make sure you are prepared by helping you save a few bucks at checkout.
You can head to stores and stock up on an emergency kit for your home, car or office. Things like batteries, duct tape, weather radios and flashlights are all tax free from Sunday May 25 to May 31.
Generators are also tax free, but must cost less than one thousand dollars. Everything else must be 60 dollars or less.
“In general just things that you may need in the event of a hurricane, bottled water, things like that,” says Caleb Einwechter, assistant store manager at Lowe’s Hardware. “It's a good time to take advantage of those tax breaks on the items and make sure that you are ready for anything that might come about with the hurricane season approaching.”
Hurricane season begins on June 1st and lasts for nearly six months.
