Students Celebrate Arbor Day With Project Plant It

April 26, 2013

Third graders at Johnson Elementary School in Charlottesville gathered to celebrate Arbor Day by participating in Project Plant It.

The project is put on by Dominion Power and the Department of Forestry to help educate students on trees and the environment.

Deputy Forester Rob Farrell spoke about why it is important for these kids to learn about trees.

"Children are becoming less connected with the outdoors so it is critical that we get kids outside and get them to think about trees and the benefits of trees and they are gonna be our future environmental leaders, so this is the most important thing we can do for the environment," says Farrell.

The third graders were excited to plant trees in their school.

"I really liked planting the tree, digging the soil, and the soil felt very soft," says Annabel Granger, Johnson Elementary student.
