Around 40 students, staff and faculty attended a planned protest for the UVa Board of Visitors meeting Thursday.

There were only seven seats available for demonstrators in the meeting room, although the space had a capacity of 300 people. The rest of the protesters waiting to be let in were held outside by the police. They said they were not violating any of the Board of Visitors' rights and since it was a public meeting, they should have been allowed in.

"They're clearly trying to intimidate us, they just walked about ten police officers in there but I feel that I have a right to be there. It's a public meeting and this is my university so I don't see any legal reason for them to arrest me," said Krista O'Connell, a fourth-year student at UVa.

Demonstrators were told if they tried to come in the building, there would be consequences. They said when they asked why, no one gave them an explanation.

"I'm probably going to go in there and stick up for what I believe in like we're taught at this university," O'Connell said.

The group which organized the event, Hoo's University, said it still wants a complete explanation of the board's failed attempt to oust president Teresa Sullivan this summer.
