Some bargains at a local school are helping teachers better themselves so they can better their students.

The gym at Tandem Friends School in Albemarle County was transformed into a tag sale Saturday. The annual event helps raise money for the John Howard Professional Development Fund.

That money is used to help teachers at the school further their education.

"Going out into the field, learning about what's best in education, what's working well, what's not working well, is really valuable to our teachers, our kids and ultimately our entire community," said Andy Jones-Wilkins, the head of school.

The school has been collecting toys, clothes, furniture and other gently-used items since the summer.

Sunday is the last day of the sale, and most prices will be slashed in half.

Items that don't get picked up by then will be donated to local charities.
