Tea Party Group Protest at IRS Office in Charlottesville

May 21, 2013

The Jefferson Area Tea Party (JATP) held a rally in front of the local IRS office on Tuesday, to protest the IRS targeting Conservative groups.

Tea party members gathered outside the IRS building in downtown Charlottesville as part of the national Rein in the IRS Project.

Chairwoman Carole Thorpe went inside the building, attempting to deliver a statement of grievances to the IRS officials.

Thorpe says what the IRS did isn't helpful for any organization.

"It's very important that, in order to preserve our freedom of speech and freedom of dissent, that we condemn what's happened. And that's what happening nationally. There are very few people that are standing up on any side of the political aisle to support the action that's happened by the IRS."

After visiting the IRS office, the JATP held a larger gathering on the Downtown Mall.
